Liverpool face anxious wait over Philippe Coutinho's fitness with Adam Lallana already sidelined for Premier League leaders' visit to Southampton

KLOPP

Liverpool are sweating on Philippe Coutinho’s fitness after he had a scan at a private hospital on Merseyside on Thursday.

The Brazil forward only returned on Wednesday night, having been involved in his country’s World Cup qualifier against Peru in Lima.

Coutinho reported back to Melwood but did not train with the squad and, instead, he went to Spire Hospital for an assessment.

It places a huge question over whether he will be fit to line up for the league leaders at Southampton on Saturday.

It is the last thing Jurgen Klopp needs, given he has already lost Adam Lallana.

Lallana damaged his groin in England’s 2-2 draw with Spain on Tuesday but should be available for the home game with Sunderland on Saturday week.

Coutinho has been in stunning form in the Premier League since the start of the season.

He has provided five goals in the English top flight for Klopp's high-flying Liverpool this campaign.
Coutinho was also in staggering form for his nation as they won 3-0 against Argentina during the international break.
