Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan must follow up impressive Feyenoord display in Premier League, says manager Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho has called upon Henrikh Mkhitaryan to replicate his impressive display against Feyenoord in the Premier League.

The Manchester United midfielder has been infrequently used by Mourinho since making a £27million move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer. Mkhitaryan has not played in the league since United's 1-0 loss to Manchester City on September 10.

There have been calls for the Armenian to start, with United sixth in the league, but there have been suggestions that he is not up to the physical level required in the English top flight.

And following Mkhitaryan's excellent performance against the Dutch league leaders, Mourinho has called for his charge to play better domestically.

'He needs now to replicate this kind of performance in the Premier League,' said Mourinho to the Manchester Evening News.

'The Europa League is different, he needs one more step and it gives him the right to believe he can play in the next match and play with more physicality, more aggression.

'But he has the quality and that is why we bought him.'

Mkhitaryan will be hoping to earn a place in United's starting line-up when they take on West Ham on Sunday.

The Old Trafford side drew their last home game in the Premier League, conceding a late equaliser to Arsenal courtesy of an Olivier Giroud header.

Victory on Saturday could see United close the gap to fifth-placed Tottenham to just two points.
