WENGER AND RAMSEY
Aaron Ramsey has lifted the lid on why he chose to sign for
Arsenal over Manchester United in
2008, citing the influence of Arsene Wenger as crucial in making the decision.
Ramsey faces the club he could have
joined on Saturday afternoon when Arsenal travel to their perennial rivals
United in the Premier League.
Eight years ago, the midfielder
joined the Gunners in a £5million move from Cardiff City.
United, who were the Premier League
and Champions League holders at the time, were close to signing the teenage
talent too.
However, the Wales international
chose the Emirates over Old Trafford after they flew him to Switzerland for
face-to-face talks with boss Arsene Wenger at Euro 2008.
And talking about the move, Ramsey
admits it was the efforts of Wenger that saw him put pen-to-paper on a
long-term deal in north London.
'I went up there to see the facilities and I went to see
Arsene Wenger,' the Arsenal midfielder told Sky Sports.
'He did a lot to try and get me to this club. As a
17-year-old, flying out on a private jet to his hotel [in Switzerland for Euro
2008] was surreal but I think I made the right decision.
'I just felt a bit more wanted by
Arsenal and by the boss.'
