POGBA
Ahead of this weekend's highly anticipated Manchester derby,
former Manchester United striker Andy Cole has revealed that he
believes Roy Keane and Paul Scholes were better than Paul Pogba and has laughed
off any comparison between the 23-year-old and either of his former teammates
at this stage.
After four years at Juventus, Pogba moved back to United
this summer for a world-record £89 million fee and he's produced two impressive
performances to help Jose Mourinho's side maintain their 100% start to the new
campaign.
Meanwhile, Cole had great success playing in front of one of
the club's greatest ever central midfield partnerships, scoring 121 goals in
275 appearances for the Red Devils.
Speaking exclusively to 888Sport, Cole said, "Roy and
Scholesy, well I'm very biased because I played with the pair of them. Pogba
has the ability to become a fantastic player. But will he surpass them two?
I'll tell you what; if he does then he'll turn out to be some player. Those two
were absolutely phenomenal.
"I'm very biased. The '99 team was a very good team and
what we achieved means a lot of people love that team and want to see
Manchester United play like that team."
However, it would be foolish to think that Cole doesn't rate
Pogba as a player because, judging by the other things he said about the France
international, he is evidently a big fan.
"I can't see why he can't be the complete
midfielder," stated Cole. "For such a young man to go to Italy and do
what he did then of course he can. He can be a special player at Old Trafford
and that's why they paid all that money to bring him back.
"To cope with the price as he has done, it's just water
off a duck's back. So fair play to him to come back to Old Trafford for
unfinished business."
No one doubts the talent and quality that Pogba possesses,
but one of the criticisms of the Frenchman is that for all his ability, he
hasn't taken enough big games by the scruff of the neck and controlled them for
his team.
He couldn't stop Barcelona from
beating Juve in the 2015 Champions League final and the former United youth
team star was fairly anonymous as Portugal won the Euro 2016 final back in
July.
That said, in another massive
match and his first Manchester derby, Pogba has a wonderful opportunity to show
the world exactly what he is capable of doing.
