CONTE
Antonio Conte has suggested he may consider wearing a GPS
heart monitor during matches in a bid to ensure his animated touchline manner
doesn't damage his health.
The Chelsea boss, who has won seven of his 12 games since
taking over at Stamford Bridge in the summer, is one of football's most
animated managers and does little to hide his emotions from his players
and fans alike.
But in an age where players' physical exertions are
regularly tracked by GPS during training and games, and analysed by the clubs'
medical departments, Conte admitted he may even try the technology out himself.
Conte works hard on his own fitness, after bringing his
playing career to a close in 2004, but despite his energetic style the
Italian doesn't expect his own heartrate to be anywhere near that of his
players.
'I'm worried about this for this reason,' Conte said.
'I try to have a session to run and maintain good physical
form because I know I compete.
'I don't (wear a heart monitor) but in one game I (might)try
the GPS to control my heart. I don't think (his heartrate is more than
the players).
'Usually I prefer to watch the video when I lose because I
understand we must improve. When you lose you can learn a lot. It's good but
it's not important for me to see my celebration.'
Conte's Chelsea face Southampton this weekend, with the
Italian impressed with what he's seen since Claude Puel took over at St Mary's
in the summer.
'I watch many games and I like Puel because his team plays
offensive football,' he said.
'In the last game they played very good against City and
they are more compact in a defensive situation. They will be very tough for us
but I'm sure it will be a good test for us to continue after three good games.
'This team and this test is different. We play a team in
good shape and for our ambition this is very important.'
