Blues boss Conte delivered mixed news on the injury front in
his press conference on Friday, but will he make any changes for the return of
Jose Mourinho with the Red Devils?
Antonio
Conte has assured Chelsea fans that John Terry is still fit and in contention
for the match against Manchester United on Sunday, though revealed the game
comes too soon for injured trio Cesc Fabregas, Branislav Ivanovic and Kurt
Zouma.
Willian and
Oscar returned from Brazil on Thursday morning after having both suffered
family bereavements in the same week, but may not be ready to start the match
with only two training sessions under their belts.
Conte expects
a cagey game after seeing Man Utd line up defensively in their 0-0 draw against
Liverpool on Monday, and said that he may wait until after his side's final
training session before decising on a starting XI.
Chelsea had
a very young bench for their 3-0 win over Leicester last weekend and could be
forced to do the same again for Jose Mourinho's return to Stamford
Bridge, as Conte delivered some bad news regarding injuries.
“John
[Terry] is in good fitness, good shape." He told a press conference at
Cobham Training Centre. "He trained with the team.
"Fabregas
had a small muscular injury in a strange part of his body. I hope he will be
back very soon. Ivanovic is also recovering. Zouma came back to training
with the Under-21s this week, next week I want him to join us.
"Me,
the players and the club are all supporting Willian. When you lose your
mother, it’s a very bad thing. We are all very sorry, also for Oscar,
whose grandfather died. You have to make the right decision. We have tomorrow
to see."
Chelsea will
likely be unchanged after back-to-back clean sheets in two wins after a bad run
of three league games without a victory. The main question that will likely be
in Conte's mind is whether Willian will be mentally prepared for such a
huge game after the passing of his mother.
